Fisherman’s Island (early/mid-20thc)
Ed Reavy (1897-1988), who composed this tune, was already a musician when he emigrated from Ireland to Philadelphia at age 10. He composed many tunes. According to his son Joseph, he said of this tune that he thought fishermen dreamed of having an island all their own surrounded by the bountiful sea, and tried to put that feeling into the tune. My arrangement is in homage to another great Irish fiddler, Tommy Potts of Galway, who used erratic rhythms and elaborations of melody to great effect.
