Litten’s Hornpipe/Sailor’s Delight (c~1800)
William Litten was a British naval fiddler who kept a notebook of tunes during his 1800-1802 voyage to the East Indies and composed the first tune. The triple hornpipe Sailor’s Delight comes from manuscripts compiled by the Winder family of Wyresdale, Lancashire between 1789-1841. No place in Britain is more than 70 miles from tidal waters.
